How We Use This Data
We use collected data to:
Track daily attendance and assign points for positive attendance behaviors.
Enable students, parents, and teachers to view attendance and points.
Facilitate reward opportunities for students based on earned points.
Provide aggregated, anonymized reports to vendors to understand general trends (e.g., grade levels or districts where promotional offers perform well) without disclosing individual identities.
Improve, secure, and maintain our platform.
How We Protect Your Information
All data, including student IDs and attendance, is encrypted at rest and in transit.
Identifiable data is stored in separate, secure tables to minimize exposure risk.
Access is strictly controlled by user roles (e.g., teachers only see their own class’s data).
We do not sell or use student personal information for marketing purposes.
We conduct routine testing and monitoring to prevent unauthorized access.
FERPA Compliance
Because we partner directly with schools, we are considered a “school official” under FERPA, with a legitimate educational interest in maintaining these records.
We only use student data to deliver our services and support educational outcomes.
We do not disclose personally identifiable information (PII) to third parties, except as permitted by FERPA (such as in aggregated, de-identified reports to vendors).
Requests to review or amend student education records must be made through the student’s school, and we will assist the school in fulfilling these requests.
Schools retain responsibility for notifying parents of Attendance Point’s participation as a school-authorized program, and for managing any opt-out requests.
COPPA Compliance
Attendance Point complies with COPPA by:
Collecting only the minimum information necessary to operate the program.
Allowing parents to review their child’s data and revoke participation at any time.
Not collecting or sharing any data in a personally identifiable form with vendors.
Parent Rights & Controls
Parents can:
View information collected on their child via their Attendance Point account, if created.
Remove their child’s access to the platform at any time, preventing further participation (Note: school education records, as governed by FERPA, remain controlled by the school and are not deleted or modified by Attendance Point).
Submit requests to their child’s school to review or delete educational records, which will be reflected in our system once updated by the school.
Sharing With Vendors
Attendance Point may share aggregated, anonymized data with vendors or partners who offer rewards. This ensures no personal information about students, parents, or teachers is disclosed.
We may share aggregated data such as:
Counts or percentages of students by grade level or geographic region
Summary statistics on points earned and rewards redeemed
Non-identifiable trends (e.g., grades most frequently redeeming certain rewards)
How this data may be used:
To evaluate program effectiveness and reward engagement
Never for marketing, advertising, or commercial targeting
Vendors are required to:
Maintain administrative, technical, & physical safeguards to protect all data
Use the data only for the limited educational purpose described above
Not attempt to re-identify individuals or combine data to determine identities
Changes To This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When updates occur, we will revise the “last updated” date above, and if changes are significant, notify schools and parents directly.
